Talent research in Singapore: the 2026 market report
Singapore produces the most legible professional records in Asia and the shortest-lived ones. This report explains why a Singapore dataset ages faster than a European equivalent, and why the field most often missing from it is the one that decides the hire.
Key facts
- English is the working language, so the collection problem is low — and that makes the remaining problems easier to overlook.
- A large share of senior roles carry regional remits across eight to twelve countries; location and responsibility are different fields.
- Much of the relevant evidence for a Singapore-seated senior person sits in sources outside Singapore.
- The population is internationally mobile and a large share holds time-limited passes, so employer, scope and territory can all change inside a year.
- Employment agency work is licensed under the Employment Agencies Act; research is not placement.
Why Singapore records are easy to collect
Singapore is the most legible professional market in Asia. English is the working language of business, professional visibility is high by regional standards, the corporate registry is accessible, and the Ministry of Manpower publishes occupational wage tables and labour market reports that are genuinely usable as a statistical frame.
That ease is also the trap. Because collection is straightforward, Singapore datasets are frequently built quickly, look complete, and are never interrogated on the one dimension that matters most.
A research market where the raw material is hard to get produces obvious failures. A market where it is easy produces confident ones.
The field that is almost always missing
Singapore functions as the Asia-Pacific headquarters market. A director sitting in Marina Bay may carry responsibility for Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Australia and India, and nothing in the job title says so.
So a population defined by where people sit and a population defined by what they are responsible for are two different lists. They overlap by far less than buyers expect, and a dataset that records only location has silently answered a different question from the one that was asked.
There is no published series for the pay or seniority difference between a Singapore-only role and a regionally scoped one at the same title. It has to be established by primary research against a named comparator set, or it should not be stated at all.
Where the evidence actually lives
Because senior Singapore roles are regional, a large share of the corroborating evidence for a Singapore-seated individual sits outside Singapore — in filings, registers, regulatory disclosure and trade press across the markets that person covers.
A dataset built only from Singapore-facing sources is therefore systematically thinnest at exactly the senior end where accuracy matters most. Where a remit covers Greater China, Japan or Korea, the underlying verification work runs in those languages even though the deliverable is in English.
We state which languages a given engagement required, because that tells you how far the verification actually reached rather than how far it claimed to.
Decay: why a Singapore dataset ages fast
Two forces compress the useful life of a Singapore dataset. The first is international mobility: this is a market people move through as well as into, and a senior person can leave the territory entirely between one refresh and the next.
The second is the pass framework. A large share of the professional population holds time-limited Employment Passes, and under the Complementarity Assessment Framework their practical hireability depends partly on the hiring employer’s own workforce profile rather than only on their own credentials. Updated qualification and institution lists took effect for new applications from 1 January 2026, with renewals following from 1 July 2026.
A dataset that records pass dependency and regional remit as explicit fields can be refreshed surgically. One that does not has to be rebuilt.
What a finished Singapore dataset should contain
The written population definition, stating whether the geography is residence or responsibility, and listing the countries covered where it is the latter.
Pass dependency as a field. Source recorded against every material field, a confidence grade wherever corroboration was not possible, and a measured quality-assurance result from a sampled re-check by an analyst who did not build the records.
And a short, honest expected useful life. Singapore datasets do not age like European ones, and a supplier who prices a refresh as though they do has not worked here.
This report is the market view. If you want the service — scope, process and what it costs — that sits on talent research in Singapore.
Singapore talent research: common questions
Is Singapore too small to need commissioned research?
For a Singapore-only operational role, sometimes. For a regional leadership role, a scarce technical capability or a competitor structure question, the market is small enough that missing ten people is a material error rather than a rounding one.
The smaller the population, the less statistical cushion there is to hide an omission.
What is the single most common defect in a Singapore dataset?
Conflating location with scope. A record that says "Singapore" without saying whether the person runs Singapore or runs eight countries from Singapore cannot support a regional appointment.
It is also not recoverable after the fact without re-researching, which is why the definition has to be settled before fieldwork.
How long does a Singapore dataset stay accurate?
Less time than a European equivalent, because the senior population is internationally mobile and a large share of it holds time-limited passes.
We state an expected useful life on delivery and record pass dependency as a field, so the refresh can target the records most likely to have changed.
Does research count as employment agency work in Singapore?
No, and the line matters. The Employment Agencies Act makes employment agency work a licensed activity, and the Ministry of Manpower treats executive search agencies as a licensable category in their own right.
Audentia delivers research on a fixed fee. We do not place, do not introduce candidates for a placement fee, and charge nothing contingent on a hire.
